IAFR’s ministry in Vienna is focused on finding solutions to the educational needs of unaccompanied minors, and the children and youth of asylum seekers and refugees in the region. Accessible and trauma informed education not only gives opportunities to the children themselves, but also fosters mutual respect and integration for the whole community. We have identified critical gaps in the services provided by the government for kids and are determined to support and advocate for them during this vulnerable time in their lives.
We are also raising awareness of this need among local churches and schools inviting them to join us in becoming part of the solution.
Austria has been hosting asylum seekers and refugees since the end of WWII. Many of them live in the Vienna region while waiting for the applications for asylum to be processed, a process that can take many years.
While the government provides shelter and other basic needs for the family, the critical educational and psychological needs of the children are often overlooked.
