IAFR is committed to long-term collaboration with the United Refugee Churches (URC) in Kakuma refugee camp.

The URC is a refugee initiated and led association of churches in Kakuma refugee camp. Over 40 churches in the camp are part of the URC, representing thousands of believers from Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, D.R. Congo, Burundi and other nationalities.

The URC was formed with the conviction that the churches can accomplish more together than they could on their own.

The URC established a Leadership Training Institute back in 1999. Thousands of pastors and lay leaders have since completed the three year program. Some of the founding leaders in the new South Sudan nation are graduates of this 3 year program.

The URC is the leading partner for IAFR's Bibles for Refugees project that seeks to place a Bible in the hand of every refugee believer.

The URC is helping care for widows, orphans and single mothers that are among the most vulnerable refugees. They also work together to complete refugee church building projects. It is an inspiration to witness how they are even reaching beyond the confines of the camp to plant churches in the surrounding villages.

We have much to learn from one another as we deepen our relationships and work to help the URC succeed in their God-given vision and calling.

IAFR is presently developing a website for the URC that will give them a platform from which they can tell their own story and invite others to partner with them in their mission. We hope to complete the website by the end of March 2012.
