They expressed their willingness to wear the same shoes and serve God together

I was excited when I met two humble men willing to learn about the conditions in which refugees are living and serving God. They expressed their willingness to bear the same shoes and serve God together with us as God will guide them.

The Kakuma Camp Project Coordinator of the National Council of Churches Kenya (NCCK) introduced me to Tom Albinson and his teammate, both  form IAFR. I was able to guide and introduce them to different churches in Kakuma refugee camp. It was  during that time that they expressed their heart's desire to partner with us in serving God together with the refugee community in any capacity that God will enable them.

The URC in Kakuma is thankfull for the concern of IAFR and we pray that God may fulfill the IAFR vision for refugees worldwide.

He treated me - an ex-refugee - as a peer

When I met Tom Albinson, There is Hope was a vision that had not yet materialised. He showed great respect and treated me - an ex refugee - as a peer. He offered his skills, services and connections to support the development of our work. In all his dealings with refugees, Tom always checks to make sure that his approach is relevant and appropriate for their cultural setting. It is an honour for me to work with Tom and IAFR.

My encounter with IAFR...ushered a paradigm shift

My encounter with IAFR through a visit from Tom Albinson and Mark S. in the remotest desert like part of Kenya ushered a paradigm shift in my mentality in regard to the great commission and how the global church can network through genuine pure relationships that are poised to realize what Prophet Micah talked about in Micah 4:2.

It was humbling to see two men of more than 50 years, enthusiastically spending their time and energy in establishing a strong relational contact with several churches in Kakuma refugee camp that is a home to more than 80,000 people (56% Muslims) from 9 different nations of Africa.

It brings to life the words of our Lord Jesus Christ “Upon this rock, I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" (Matt.16:18).

It is my prayer that God gives Tom Albinson all it will take to accomplish God’s purpose for which IAFR was founded. NCCK is honoured to be part of this that which God is doing.

IAFR is on the cutting edge

Tom Albinson and IAFR is on the cutting edge of understanding and engaging the increasing global reality of forcibly displaced people. My personal work and travel with Tom has afforded me an accurate picture of his impressive level of experience and knowledge about the global refugee highway and its continually changing realities. IAFR is an organization that is leading the way in the work of connecting churches to refugees on a global scale. Their approach is holistic and refreshing--bringing hope to people who are at critical junctures of need and opportunity. In my imagination I cannot think of a more effective way to ignite mission in the Christian Church than be a part of connecting to the Refugee Highway and I cannot think of a better organization than IAFR to make this a reality.

I know of no one who has a handle of the plight of refugees...

Since the 1980s I've know of the significant heart for and work with refugees Tom Albinson been doing. It has been my deep privilege to be both friend and mentor to him and his wife and members of his past teams. Sincerely, I know of no one who has the handle of the plight of refugees...and can offer the hope that he gives to help others care for and nurture displaced people like this good man. That he has been led to create IAFR has my full endorsement. My wife and I count ourselves blessed to be able to be counted as engaged supporters Tom and his developing teams.

Forever changed by the vision of IAFR

Dignity Business Partners' Chairman Dr. Don Byker and CEO Stephen Freed have been forever changed by the vision and challenge of International Association for Refugees' President Tom Albinson and IAFR's brilliant approach of connecting the church "here" to the refugee church "there" to help all refugees everywhere.  Tom planted in us a recognition that God's heart is specially and clearly focused on these who are least.  The mandate is not debatable.  Our lives gain meaning and fulfillment of our purpose as we "walk in Christ".  We cannot walk in Christ and at the same time walk to the other side of the road - away from the refugee he specifically called us to care for.  Period.  Most of us don't know how.  Linking with IAFR provides the "how".  We are privileged to include IAFR's strategies in our business planning.
